Jesse: Many people say, "Music makes people come together," but listening to music often feels like a long and deeply personal journey. How would you describe your own experience with music—its process and emotions?

Andy: Music has played a vital role in every stage of my life. During my school years, while spending countless hours in art class, music became both a source of inspiration and a comforting companion during tedious practice. As I transitioned into DJing and music work, I began to explore my identity through music, discovering my unique sound. Though I’ve never been particularly expressive in words, music became my voice—a bridge connecting me to the world.

J: Do you have any memorable or unique experiences at record stores?

A: One unforgettable experience was my first deep dive into Berlin's underground club culture. That exposure sparked a deep curiosity about the roots and context of the culture. Visiting Hard Wax, one of Berlin's iconic record stores, was transformative. Without much knowledge, I sifted through records one by one, trying to understand the sounds shaping the club nights I experienced. Meeting DJ Pete, who worked at Hard Wax and later seeing him perform with vinyl at local clubs, profoundly inspired me. It revealed that record stores aren't just retail spaces—they’re integral to the cultural ecosystem. Weekly trips to different stores during that period also ignited my passion for DJing.

J: How did you start your journey as a DJ? After all these years, how do you view the role of a DJ now?

A: Over the years, performing in various settings and connecting with diverse audiences, I’ve come to understand that DJing can take many forms. Today, I see DJing as an art form—a medium to share one’s identity and connect with the world through sound. It’s not limited to technical skill but offers a canvas to explore the vast possibilities of music.

J: What makes vinyl records special to you?

A: In an age where digital music is so easily accessible, the tangible process of engaging with vinyl stands out. Digging through records and selecting them feels uniquely personal, like curating a collection of art. Playing music on vinyl offers a tactile and auditory richness that digital formats often can’t replicate. That’s where its true magic lies.

J: For electronic music lovers in Taipei, what do you feel the city offers? And what do you think it might still be missing?

A: Taipei has developed a vibrant underground culture, with clubs and electronic music events becoming increasingly accessible and inspiring for enthusiasts. However, the city still lacks physical hubs like record stores dedicated to electronic music. More of these spaces could foster a stronger community and create opportunities for cultural exchange through tangible, face-to-face interactions
